Dukan Diet Food List

Dukan diet food list is part of Dukan diet, a high protein type of diet, which was initially introduced by Pierre Dukan. This diet had been introduce in the 90’s in France and was adopted in English only in 2010. The diet was categorized in four phases: Attack, Cruise, Consolidation and permanent Stabilization.

Attack Phase

Attack is the strictest phase since a dieter can only choose to eat 72 foods. However, among the four, it is the shortest phase. It only lasts for 5 to 10 days. The Dukan diet food list for attack phase may include:

Turkey, Lean beef, Chicken, Lean ham, Seafood, Eggs, Fat free yogurt, Non fat milk, Cottage cheese.

In addition, you should eat 11/2 tbsp oat bran a day to help you feel full. You may mix it with quark, egg and artificial sweetener and prepare it like a pancake.

The ideal way to prepare food during this phase is through roasting or grilling. To make the food flavorful, you can add herbs, vinegar, onions and soy sauce. Never forget that you need to consume 1.5 liters of water every day during this period.

During this phase, other type of foods are also off limits especially other high fat foods are not allowed. Food that is not included in the Dukan diet food list during the attack phase are:

  • Pork
  • Beef
  • Duck
  • Goose
  • Mutton
  • Beans

Side effects of Attack Phase

Dr. Dukan stresses that the attack phase is effective in rapid weight loss. This is effective for people who want to lose weight in just a couple of weeks. However, this stage may have uncommon side effects to dieters. Some of the side effects may include:

  • Bad breath
  • Dry mouth

To avoid these bothersome side effects, it is recommended that you drink more water. Chewing sugar free gum is also allowed.

Other Phases

Foods in other phases do not include added fats. Spices, vinegars and herbs are allowed for flavor. Protein sources are still allowed with oat bran and minimum of 1.5 liters of water each day. The oat bran is source of fiber to help you in your digestion.

Aside from water, you can still enjoy coffee, diet soda and tea to give you a variety of option.

Conclusion

Among the four phases, the attack phase is phase where rapid loss happens. This is quite similar to the South Beach Diet phase one or induction phase of the Atkins diet. Though it is only composed of five to ten days, it is the most important part of the dieting phase since it only contains foods that are rich in protein. High protein allows you to stop your cravings and stabilize glucose in the blood.
